Hasina takes office as PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today took office, a day after being sworn in as the head of the country's new government.
Prior to taking charge of the Prime Minister's Office, she paid tributes to her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and offered prayers before heading to the National Mausoleum in Savar.

Newly appointed Foreign Minister Dipu Moni today said Bangladesh would play a pioneer role in fighting militancy and terrorism in South Asia.

France and Egypt announced an initiative to stop the fighting in Gaza late Tuesday, hours after Israeli mortar shells exploded near a UN school sheltering hundreds of people displaced by the onslaught on Hamas militants. At least 30 Palestinians died, staining streets with blood.
