Prime accused in Ctg arms case Hafizur taken to TFI cell |

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took Md Hafizur Rahman - the prime accused in sensational Chittagong arms haul case, into a three-day remand for interrogation at TFI (Task Force Interrogation) cell in Dhaka Wednesday morning.
A CID team led by Investigation Officer Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, a senior ASP of CID Chittagong, took Hifizur out of Chittagong Jail and started for TIF Cell at CID headquarters in Dhaka by a jeep at 7:00am, sources in the investigating agency said.
Earlier on January 14, a metropolitan magistrate court in the port city granted the three-day remand following a prayer by the CID, reports our staff correspondent in Chittagong.
Hafizur was involved in smuggling and offloading of ten truckloads of firearms and ammunition seized at Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Company Limited (CUFL) jetty in the early hours of April 02 in 2004. He surrendered before the Dhaka High Court on October 26 in 2005.
In March 2009 Hafizur made a confessional statement under section 164 before Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Osman Gani that made a remarkable development in the case.
In that confessional statement Hafizur revealed that some high officials of the then government and those of concerned intelligence agencies and Coast Guard were well aware of the smuggling.
The process for arranging safe passage of the deadly weapons and ammunition started in late 2001, Hafizur said in his confession.
CID got 78-day extended time further to investigate the sensational case on January 4 this year. |
