Judicial officials placed above chiefs of armed forces
The High Court on Thursday directed the government to frame within 60 days a new Warrant of Precedence, placing the district judges, additional district judges and chief metropolitan magistrates above the positions of three chiefs of staff of defence forces and the secretaries.
The HC declared illegal and unconstitutional the existing Warrant of Precidence of 1986 in which the positions of the chiefs of army, navy and air forces and the secretaries were put above the judicial officials.
The HC came up with the judgement following a writ petition filed by Ataur Rahman, a district and sessions judge, challenging the existing Warrant of Precedence.
He stated in the writ petition that the Cabinet Division has framed the Warrant of Precedence-1986 in an arbitrary manner.
