Anthal Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, sister of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Bayan Palace suit in Kuwait Sunday night. During the meeting, they discussed different issues including the consequences of world climate change that is mostly affecting the developing countries across the globe. Anthal Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, an environmental activist, is working on environment issues of the Kuwaiti government. Referring to Bangladesh's vulnerability of world climate change, Sheikh Hasina said her government has already taken various programmes to tackle the adverse impacts of global warming. In this context, she referred her government's capital and maintenance dredging programmes in the country's major rivers to face the negative impact of climate change. Calling upon for taking concerted efforts in tackling grim challenges of climate change, the Bangladeshi premier said none could fight against the adverse environmental impacts alone. About the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, she said Bangladesh has called upon the developed countries to come forward to support the Most Vulnerable Countries (MVCs) of climate change to implement their adaptation and mitigation programmes. Terming the existing bilateral relation between Bangladesh and Kuwait excellent, Sheikh Hasina hoped that it would further be consolidated in the days to come. Sheikh Hasina invited Anthal Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah to visit Bangladesh when the Kuwaiti Amir's sister gladly accepted the invitation. Sheikh Rehana, younger sister of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, State Minister for Environment and Forests Dr Hasan Mahmud, Bangladesh Ambassador to Kuwait Shahed Reza and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad were present on the occasion. |
