The host New Zealand won the second match of the three-match ODI series, beating Bangladesh by five wickets at University Oval in Dunedin on Monday. New Zealand reached its tiny target in only 27.3 overs. Ross Taylor smashed a fastest innings of 78 (52). James Franklin 20 (29) and Daniel Vettori 4(1) were unbeaten on the crease. Pacer Shafiul Islam grabbed three wickets while Rubel Hossain two. Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first that scored only 183/8 in 50 overs. Wicket kipper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim made highest run 86 (107) while Naeem Islam scored 43 (81). IG Butler grabbed three wickets while AJ McKay took two and DR Tuffey took one. A 101 runs' seventh wicket partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam raised Bangladesh to a modest 183 after their top order batsmen collapsed at the University Oval. At one stage, the tourists lost six wickets for only 46 runs in the 23rd over. On February 5, New Zealand won the first ODI by 146 runs against Bangladesh at McLean Park in Napier. The next and final match of the series will take place at Christchurch on Feb 11. |
